From rockin' a T.W.A. ("teeny-weeny afro") at the 2015 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show to landing modeling gigs with big-time brands like Chanel, Balmain, Givenchy, and Target, Maria Borges has proudly represented her culture. And once again she has blazed another trail for ethnic models everywhere. Angolan model Maria Borges has become the new face of L'Oreal Paris.
The supermodel could not be more excited and proud of her latest accomplishment. In a statement released by the renowned beauty brand, Borges said, "This means the world to me." She continued, "I believe in the beauty of diversity and the empowering message that a girl who started from the bottom can become an international beauty symbol. And be living proof that our dreams are valid and the future ahead of us is bright. Thank you L’Oréal Paris, we’re all worth it."
L'Oreal is happy to have her in the fold as well. Global President Pierre-Emmanuel Angeloglou made the following statement:
"When her mile-wide smile lights up a runway, Maria inspires others to shine. Helping break barriers, she uses her voice to motivate other women to believe in their beauty: an empowering message that’s core to our beliefs at L’Oréal Paris. We are honored to welcome Maria as our new Lorealista, to inspire more women around the world."
In an arena where Black women are largely underrepresented, Borges continues to open doors and break through the glass ceilings of opportunity. Black women are beautiful, strong, compassionate, hardworking, and deserving of images that represent the fullness of our greatness. Well done, Maria. We are indeed worth it.
